Legacy Traditional School-Laveen Family,
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Legacy Traditional School – Laveen Village. Whether you’re a returning student, new to our school or starting school for the first time, we all share the excitement of a brand new school year. Whether it’s shopping for new clothes or checking out the latest in school supplies, something about going back to school causes excitement and causes us to imagine what might be in store for us in the coming months.
Our focus this school year will once again will be to provide each child with a strong academic foundation on which they can build upon throughout their lives. Our mission will continue to focus on providing motivated students with the opportunity to achieve academic excellence in an accelerated, back-to-basics, safe learning environment taught by caring, knowledgeable and highly effective educators in cooperation with supportive, involved parents. Our special areas will help our students develop their interests and skills as we provide a well-rounded educational experience for each child. We continue our commitment to create an atmosphere that promotes academic excellence, trust, respect, and community involvement. It is important for our students to enjoy coming to school, for teachers and staff to enjoy their work and to feel appreciated and for parents to feel welcomed to be a part of the educational process. Working together as a team, we will continue to create a nurturing and challenging environment in which all children can succeed.
This summer, the administrative team has been working to prepare for the exciting changes that will come to our academic program this August. We will open our campus this year with one additional class each in 1st grade, 2nd grade, 6th grade and Junior High. We will also be adding 2 additional sections to our 8th grade, totaling 3 sections of 8th grade. The additional classes are necessary based on our increased student enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year. I am extremely excited to welcome our new Longhorns and their families to Legacy Laveen.
In addition to adding additional sections of classes at multiple grade levels, I am also pleased to announce that this school year Legacy Laveen will have full-time Art and full time Spanish teachers, additional Music and Physical Education teachers and a full-time technology instructor. In addition to new teachers joining our staff, we will have three (3) Legacy Traditional School veteran teachers transferring to our campus. Mrs. Cathy Caskey will be transferring from Legacy Traditional Avondale to teach a section of our Junior High’s English/Literature and Mrs. Erin Osuna will also be transferring from Legacy Traditional – Avondale to teach 2nd grade. I am sure that each of our new teachers will be a tremendous asset to our school. I extend a warm welcome to all of our new teachers.
This past April, students in grades 3 through 8 were required to take the AIMS Reading and Mathematics, grades 5, 6, and 7 AIMS Writing, grades 4 and 8 AIMS Science and grade 2 Stanford 10. I am please to announce that as a first year Legacy Traditional School, our Longhorns did a great job. For the 2012-2013 academic year, Legacy Traditional School has been awarded a school letter grade of “B”. I am extremely proud our students and the amount of effort they put into their assessments. This year’s AIMS results show that we are headed in the right direction. I am confident that our students will make great academic progress as we continue to “Charge Towards Excellence”! I ask that you join me in applauding our students and their teachers for a job well done.
School Goals for 2013-2014
I along with the faculty and staff will continue build upon the foundation of success established at Legacy Laveen by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners. We will focus on character building, fostering a nurturing safe environment for children, use of data to drive instruction, implementation of strategies to increase student achievement, and providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students.
It is extremely important that parents and teachers work together to make each student’s school year an enjoyable and successful one. All parents are encouraged to volunteer on our campus during the school year. I encourage parents to discuss with their child’s teacher; ways in which volunteerism will work with your schedules. As shared with all families, the home/school partnership is a major component in Legacy Laveen’s overall success.
As always, my door is open to you and I truly welcome your input. Please feel free to contact our front office to schedule an appointment if you should have the need to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas that will add to the success of our school. Thank you for your continued support as we “Charge Towards Excellence”.
